Transitioning Off Hormonal Birth Control

We’re not here to say hormonal birth control is wrong for everyone. But most of the time there are other options and there are certainly things you can do to minimize the stress on your body. This information is applicable for overall hormone health. Maybe you stopped hormonal birth control a while ago and are still struggling, plan to stop soon, or plan to continue but looking to optimally support your body.

Hormonal birth control causes nutrient deficiencies and mineral imbalance, it affects gut health and organ function, and impacts your stress response; it is a chronic stressor that you are constantly having to adapt to which requires a lot of your energy reserves and affects adrenal function.

Here are several things to do to minimize the stress on your body while on hormonal birth control or transitioning off:

Get nervous system focused chiropractic care

You can't deep breathe your way out of this dysregulation. Addressing your nervous system through chiropractic care is the best place to start. Understanding how stress affects you, how to manage stress, and becoming more resilient is exactly what we focus on. By regulating your nervous system, returning to a state of parasympathetic, rest and digest - you will start to heal your hormones.

Nourishment to replenish mineral loss and blood sugar balance

Chronic stress like hormonal birth control causes the body to burn through minerals and vitamins; it is so important to replenish. This can be done by consuming mineral rich drinks like adrenal cocktails, bone broth, and electrolytes. Adrenal cocktails are whole-food vitamin C, potassium, and sodium. An easy recipe is half OJ, half coconut water, and a pinch of sea salt.

Eat breakfast, don’t drink coffee on an empty stomach, and eat a balanced meal or snack every 3 hours to support optimal blood sugar balance. Nutrient dense foods to prioritize include pasture raised eggs, raw dairy, grass-fed beef, root vegetables, and fermented food.

Prioritize sleep

We all know how important sleep is to optimize our stress response, calm the nervous system, and restore energy reserves. Try going to bed earlier, it will make a big difference!

Get in the sunlight

You can't supplement this form of vitamin D! Get outside for a walk or play to regulate your nervous system.
